Ginger needs some tutoring

Vote over at TWC and you can see my sloppy thumbnails that turned into these pages! Because that's fun sometimes.

I'm trying something a bit different with my line art in this page to make it less harsh and solid black, and I think I dig it. I found a trick on Pinterest the other day where if you duplicate your lines, color the lower copy all solid light purple (or whatever vibes with your page) and set it to about 50% opacity, then set the top copy of your lines (still black) to Overlay, you get a nice effect that blends with your coloring without doing hours of work coloring lines individually. I like it! And it's easy, and when you're churning out pages this quickly, whatever is easy is good. Somewhere in the last chapter, I discovered that if I make a layer above my background lines and just go in with a big, soft brush and add a solid color over everything, then take the opacity down to about 20%, I can "blur" out the background a bit and it makes everyone stand out better. Downside, it takes away a lot of the saturation and vibrancy of whatever I put in the background, but I find that I don't mind. My main goal is to make a page that feels harmonious, and that's hard when you have a bunch of people wearing different things on a background with a lot of elements. You have to sacrifice somewhere, or everything will end up looking like those majestic paintings of dolphins with way too much detail that I had on all my folders in elementary school. (Lisa Frank being a guaranteed 2nd tier option to Chrisitan Riese Lassen.)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next few pages so we can find out what Ginger has been up to! In her own words, translated by Aubrey. Meanwhile, there's some weird ominous stuff happening in the back of the house with plants, but don't worry about it.

I'm off next week to drive to New Mexico to hang with my gramma, so there will only be one page next week and the week after! Then we'll be back on a regular schedule until...the same thing happens when I leave for Christmas! Yay! I could use the break lol.
